| Uh-oh. We have a problem, Houston.
Is this you?
You own firearms, but you haven't registered them yet. Now you learn
that you CAN'T register them because you don't have a Possession and Acquisition
License.
The official Government line is, it
is now too late. All firearms had to be registered by the end of 2002.
The only extensions given were: |
- If you registered them but haven't yet received
your cards, the CFC has 6 months to send the cards. You won't be hassled
for them until June 2003 or so.
- If you tried to register but couldn't because
the site was overloaded, and you sent them an email telling them that,
you have a little while to finish the registration procedure. This only
works if you had a Firearms License and you referenced it in the email.
But: recent dealings with the CFC have indicated
that they're showing some flexibility. This isn't the official line, but
if you make the effort to get a PAL, then contact them and ask to register
your guns, they seem to be cooperating.
Contact the CFC at
1-800-731-4000 for clarification.
